get file timeout

I'm having trouble with downloading files through the 'get file' function through rutorrent.
Ideally I would be ftp'n the files but my FTP speeds are severely throttled so the HTTP traffic allows me to max my connection. For files less than 1gig I can usually get them downloaded without a problem because they are done within 45 mins or so. (My single file download caps at about 300kb/s but I can download as many files as I want at a time and they all go at 300kb/s up to my 10mb/s link). But when I download a 2gig+ file through the get file funciton, it times out before it has time to finish. Is this a timeout established by rutorrent/rtorrent that is just changeable through some form of variable?

Any advice would be great.
Thanks.

Why not use a multi-segment FTP-client? FTP is just as common as HTTP and I see no reason specified why you are being throttled on FTP.
