Hi
I am going to order a server with the followin spec :
2xIntel quad core E5620
8GB DDR3
4x1TB Sata 2
100 mbps unmetered

could you please tell me how do you distribute such resources between clients?
1- do you create vps's on this server and give vps's with rutorrent installed? or install rutorrent on server an create multiple rutorrent accounts?

2-is it really necessary to use raid? if so which raid?

3- currently I do not exactly know how intensive I/O torrents can cause. is it good to have 25 users on this server. assuming that all resources are shared. and set a 20 mbps for each user?
if not colud you please advise how many users do I create and how do I assign these accounts to users? (vps or rutorrent account)
thanks in advance

you can do it but 25 users might be overkill.

You just need to try it out....are yu aslo buying a RIPE block so you can give each vps it's own ip? That's almost a must if you plan to sell them.

Thank you for your answer.you've always been helpful to me.

I will if you think dividing server into 25 vps's is better than installing rutorrent and making 25 accounts. actually I am now confused from different aspects. 1st is a good server provider.I thought leaseweb is a good choice but it seems they behave strangely when it comes to torrents. they do not say that we do not allow torrents but also they say that we are bound to dutch laws and pay attention to DCMA notices. regarding ovh and kimsufi I herad lots of bad reviews so that I decided not to choose them. any idea about choosing a reliable server from a good company is highly appreciated.

I think that 25 vps it's too much for this hardware, remember that you only have 100mbps and 8gb RAM (it's like 256mb RAM and 4mbps for each vps)
In your case I prefer to get rutorrent multi-user, so you can get more advantage of the hardware.
Regarding the Raid, if you want to take advantage of the hard drive space use Raid 0, but if you want your data secure use Raid 1 or Raid 10.
Be sure that the unmetered bandwidth will be no filtered, because it's known that leaseweb try to filter your traffic if you are a heavy user on a 100mbps line unless you pay for Silver/Bronze/Platinum SLA.

Good luck.

25 users is probably too many. I've seen lots of providers do this and it is a bad move.

you're better off using a less expensive quad core with 2 hard drives and splitting it 10 ways.

well so I should find a cheaper server. because this server will cost me $200-$300 and if i split it into 10 vps's each one will cost to me $20-$30 then I can not compete with providers offering cheap rutorrent accounts.
please suggest some cheap hosting companies with good support.
how are ovh and kimsufi servers? I've heard very different things about them (both good and bad).
thanks

Please note that seedboxes are not really something you can make BIG money with
Most of the time people get like 10-15 USD as profit , or a free share on their own server

As long as you are not a partner or reseller from a hosting company , you will not make big money

the only way to make a lot of money on seedboxes is to have huge buying power or have very cheap access to a LOT of bandwidth.

It's a VERY hard business, take this from someone who has worked for SEVERAL seedbox providers, most can't compete, and many others don't last.

The only way to really do it is on a very small scale or a very large scale.
