Hi there,

i have an issue. where the script i used to install ru/rtorrent requires to be logged in as root when it runs. which means root is the owner of anything it downloads. my problem is, when i access via ftp on my normal user, i cant delete any of the files as they are all owned by root. how do i fix this without having to login via putty to chmod or chown the files everytime there are new files. basically i either want the files to automatically change ownership or alternatively change the owner of rutorrent. ive tried adding both user and root to same group but that didnt help. any ideas? ill need instructions for stupid people, as im ubuntu retarded.

what is the script?

I think know this, but I need you to confirm, I fear that the script denies permissions and cant edit anything in / var / www

I had the same problem with a script, now I look who can program one for do not delete the root account or deny permissions, as I want to create a new theme and modify Rapidleech plugins;)

confirms what the script you are using

no its not the script your thinking of. it doesnt do any of the things ur saying. the only issue is that it was setup as root so when it creates files, it creates them as the root user and wont allow the ftp user to delete them. i need either way to change the owner of the files being created in rtorrent or to change them once the are in the folder. but automated.
