Finding "orphaned" files

For reasons too long to explain I had to delete around 90 torrents which were "broken" (they appeared in the stopped state with the files pertaining to each torrent perfectly ok on the filesystems and not even the recheck fixed them).

Now I have all of the files belonging to those removed torrents still on the hard disk (a Unix machine).

Is there a way to understand which of the files belong to these deleted torrent files ?

The only dumb way I can think of is:
- create a new subdir on your machine like /home/user/downloads/newdir
- in ruT, select ALL torrents, right click, Save To, select newdir & check Move Data Files
- cross fingers & hope it doesn't crash rtorrent
- remove excess files on machine that are no in /newdir
