this all looks like it is working correctly.

not only are you connected to downloaders, but you can see clearly it is downloading.

Thanks for looking Wonslung smiley.gif

But .... Im still not convinced its right and after spending more time looking at it and watching the torrents ive noticed it gets errors every so often that then corect themselves without any action huh.gif

If you look at this screen shot http://i36.tinypic.com/maz0ub.png
5 of the 7 torrents show errors and the highlighted torrent shows the error the others have Tracker: [Couldn't resolve host name] huh.gif If it cant resolve the host name then how can it display the host name ? but then a few minutes later the error and the tracker url disappear and it returns to the green completed state huh.gif

Ill see how it runs over the next week but something is wrong somewhere because it just dosnt seem to upload as much and as well as i think it should comparing it with flux that im used to but then every swarm is different so its impossible to tell properly

Thanks for all your time though and if i do find something wrong or not how it should be ill let you know smiley.gif

I read that this can have to do with : max_open_files

Have a look HERE

One thing you need to understand about rtorrent is it displays a LOT more errors than most clients. That particular error can be caused by a number of things but 90% of the time it is due to the tracker itself. Unless a torrent is stuck in this start 100% of the time it's nothing to worry about. Looking at your totals, it is clear to me it is functioning normally.

I don't believe that. Flux is REALLY bad about reporting data incorrectly. rtorrent on the other hand is much more accurate.

Thanks rascalli smiley.gif
I did actully read that ticket when i was looking but couldnt resolve host name error was meant to be fixed by following this http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/ticket/1546
See above for c-ares and libcurl

Wonslung maybe it is that rtorrent reports more errors when other clients dont and thats whats making me think its broke cheesy.gif I have hit 11.3 mb/s download and 11.3 mb/s upload speed so i know i CAN hit them speeds but it just isnt seeding as much as i thought it should.
It just feels like its seeding but nowhere near what it should be doing huh.gif The average speed im doing is 200 kb/s but i have a 100 mbit connection so how could i change the settings to connect to more peers ?
My rtorrent.rc config file has
min_peers = 30
max_peers = 200
With uploads set to -1 to use the same as when downloading

Because flux uses more resources i changed to rutorrent so i could use my resources more but for some reason im using less now than when i had flux running

the fact of the matter is you simply do not have torrents which have enough clients AT ONE TIME.

trust me, it's working EXACTLY like it's supposed to. I see this a lot...people tend to grossly misjudge how much they should be seeding. You need to understand how torrents WORK.

the best way to think of the relationship between a tracker, seeders and peers is with this analogy.

Imagine you have a round table with 40 people sitting at it. All of you would like to have a copy of some book. Everyone at the table can read and write at a specific set speed. 1 guy has an entire copy of the book and there is a guy sitting at the center of the table.

The guy at the center of the table is the tracker. his job is simple, he's going to tell the guy with the whole book which pages to copy and who to give them to. he'll tell the guy with the whole book, which happens to be 200 pages to give pages 1-5 to one guy, 6-10 to another guy, 11-15 to another, and so on. he also tells people who actually have some pages, to start copying them and send them to other people at the table....

Now, imagine the same situation with more people, and more people have full copies of the book but new people sit at the table....for a new person sitting at the table, he's going to get the book much faster than those first few people....and if he sits there awhile he may even write some pages and give them to other new people who show up....but it's not going to be NEARLY as many pages as he gets when he first sits down, unless a bunch of new people all sit down at once....

so, it's not about your total upload speed, it's about:

how many people need it uploaded
how many other people are seeding it
and how good of a job the tracker is doing.

Try to change the min_peers to 1
I have it set at that .. and works perfect for me

Not sure if it correct as I saw someone mentioning that setting it to 1000 would let rtorrent search for new peers all the time

When you jump on the torrents are there already a lot of seeders ?
Or just leechers ?

As like wonslung explained , the more seeders , the less speed/parts we need to give out to make the people get what they want.
I use RSS for my dowloads , so I am mostly very eary , and hit great speed & ratio on all my torrents

i'm glad you got it working. Now you get to enjoy the difference. You will find that rtorrent+rutorrent is by far the best software. It absolutely crushes torrentflux-b4rt when it comes to efficiency.

I've had 400 torrents running on a machine with 1 gb ram, and a small celron single core cpu...it's amazing

Hi Guys,

I do not mean to hijack a thread, I think my post is related to what pvk181 posted. My apologies if you think otherwise.

The seeding is fine, no problem. In rutorrent however, the tracker URL and status fields seem to stay empty. If memory serves they used to be filled with the apropriate data for each torrent. This should be under torrent details (select a torrent, look at bottom part of screen, tab = general, 2nd section).
Under the tracker tad is the correct info, so it seems to be getting through to rutorrent.

The tracker URL and status are OK in rtorrent when i press right arrow key on a torrent.
Changing the max_open_files to 128 in my .rtorrent.rc has had no effect.
I am not firewalled or behind a home router.

rutorrent is at r1432
rtorrent is at 0.8.6
libtorrent is at 0.12.6

Any clues please?

I ahve this also for some torrents, all from the same torrent

BUt other torrents on the same server are showing the tracker info

So I think it even mighth have something to do with the torrent/tracker

Wonslung,

My apologies. Here is the information you requested

PHP: PHP 5.2.6-1+lenny9 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 (cli) (built: Aug 4 2010 06:06:53)
COmmandline version is installed as you can see

I'm using lighttpd, version lighttpd-1.4.19, and now that you mention it yes there are quite a few error in its logs. Doesn't
really look like an error to me - more like finetuning of log level but it might make more sense to you. There are many messages all similar to this:

2010-08-22 14:54:27: (http_auth.c.1162) digest: auth ok
2010-08-22 14:54:28: (http_auth.c.1008) username XXXXXXXX

2010-08-22 14:54:28: (http_auth.c.1013) qop auth
2010-08-22 14:54:28: (http_auth.c.1014) cnonce <hash or passkey>
2010-08-22 14:54:28: (http_auth.c.1015) nc 0000014a
2010-08-22 14:54:28: (http_auth.c.1016) response <hash or passkey>

I have forced https for all connections by means of a rewrite rule.

yah, i dont' see any errors. I think it's all correct....

have you tested to make sure it's not only one specific tracker?

Yeah, all trackers show this behaviour. One thing I have noticed is that when there is an error of some kind
both fields Tracker URL and Tracker Status do get filled with data. Guess it's not big deal but if you have any more hints that would
be very much apreciated smiley.gif

Sure thing. There's not that much to see but here goes. It's kind of a botch job, but it gets the point across.

Above the red line = what the general tab usually looks like
Below the red line = what the general tab looks like with an error

If you need any more info let me know.

that is a tracker error, and has nothing to do with rutorrent.

This happens for 2 reasons:

one: you're tracker or network is timing out
two: you have poor router or firewall settings

Wonslung, not sure if you understand what I meant before. My issue is that the fields "Tracker URL" and "Tracker Status" remain empty except for when there is a tracker error.
I find it improbable that all nine trackers I am currently seeding for should have the same problem. I am not firewalled.
